Calendar Formulas
The idea of odd days
Odd days are the days left over after dividing the total number of days by 7.
An ordinary year has 365 days, and 365 ÷ 7 leaves 1, so it has 1 odd day.
A leap year has 366 days, and 366 ÷ 7 leaves 2, so it has 2 odd days.
The leap year rule
A year is a leap year if it is divisible by 4.
But a century year is a leap year only if it is divisible by 400.
So 1996, 2004 and 2024 are leap years. 2000 and 2400 are leap years. But 1700, 1800, 1900 and 2100 are not.
Odd days in a century
100 years = 5 odd days
200 years = 3 odd days
300 years = 1 odd day
400 years = 0 odd days
So the calendar repeats itself exactly every 400 years.
The day codes
0 = Sunday
1 = Monday
2 = Tuesday
3 = Wednesday
4 = Thursday
5 = Friday
6 = Saturday
Odd days in each month of an ordinary year
January 3, February 0, March 3, April 2, May 3, June 2, July 3, August 3, September 2, October 3, November 2, December 3
In a leap year, February has 1 odd day instead of 0, and everything after it shifts by one.
A month of 31 days has 3 odd days, a month of 30 days has 2, and February has 0 or 1.
