Varun Gandhi offends Election Commission

varun gandhiThe election commission has requested Anup Bishnoi, UP chief electoral officer to file an FIR against Varun Gandhi under sections 153A ( to incite communal hatred) and section 188 (unlawful assembly of the IPC( Indian Penal Code) as well as section 125 of the Representation of the People Act.

Varun is alleged to have made “communal inflammatory remarks” offending the Muslim sentiments. Varun, incidentally, is Maneka Gandhi and Sanjay Gandhi’s son and is a member of the BJP. The alleged remarks were made at Pilibhit.

The Election Commission also asked for the transfer of M.P. Aggrawal and R.K.Chaturvedi, superintendent of police. Two other officers who were placed under suspension were ADM S.S.Kamal and ASP Surabh Kush.

The EC has also ordered video-tracking of all the future visits, rallies and speeches of Varun Gandhi. Notices were issued by RC to Varun and the BJP. The EC has accused Varun of inciting communal feelings through his speeches at public gathering.

Mr. Gandhi will in all probability file an anticipatory bail petition. He, of course, maintains that the video of the speeches he made was “doctored” and that he happened to be a victim of “conspiracy”. He read out a statement in which he said, “I am pro-India and not anti-anybody: He further added “I am proud of my faith and not apologetic about it. I am a Gandhi, a Hindu and an Indian in equal measure. My attempt has been to restore confidence in a community that has been under siege in its own country. I want to ask the nation to stand by me.”

Two Muslim BJP leaders, Shahnawaz Hussain and Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi- vehemently criticized Varun for his offensive remarks.
